Nunavut Emergency Management is responsible for developing the territorial emergency response plans, coordinating GN emergency operations at the territorial and regional levels, and supporting community emergency response operations. Public education focussing on emergency preparedness for individuals as well as training programs aimed at emergency responders are coordinated and promoted through this office. NEM supports the conduct and development of community Search and Rescue volunteer organizations through training and funding programs.

Locally produced safety brochures are available as well as links to national brochures and programs. Efforts are being made to produce material in Nunavut's official languages.
